Fleet provides a device visibility platform that tracks and manages enterprise devices — laptops, servers and IoT — and acts as a single source of truth for device data. The product can send snapshots to platforms like Snowflake, Splunk, Elastic and SumoLogic, exposes a REST API and webhooks, and the company says it does not store customer data. Fleet originated from an open source project called Osquery developed by CTO Zach Wasserman and Mike Arpaia; its source code, including paid features in the managed plan, is publicly available on GitHub. More than 1.65 million devices are under management, including customers such as Dropbox and Gusto, and the company has 16 employees with plans to grow to about 40 by 2023. Competitors include Balena, Particle, Sternum and security-focused platforms like Axonius, while tech giants such as Google and Apple offer their own OS- or hardware-specific solutions. Fleet plans to use capital to scale the team and build a more complete device management feature set. Fleet builds an open-source, self-hosted device management platform that enables teams to "ask questions" about servers and machines regardless of operating system or location, leveraging the Osquery agent. Its commercial product adds a GUI and enterprise-grade features such as vulnerability management, a real-time device inventory dashboard, shareable device health reports, compliance policy reporting, and a REST API. Fleet can be deployed on customers' own infrastructure or in public clouds and is positioned to complement MDM and security tools. The company does not yet support Android or iOS, citing platform restrictions, fragmentation on Android, and privacy concerns. As an open-source project, Fleet's code is inspectable and modifiable, allowing users to request features, make changes, and contribute back. Fleet reported "significant annual recurring revenue" from more than ten companies, and a number of large organizations have publicly contributed to or adopted Fleet in production environments, including Snowflake, Uber, Atlassian, Heroku, Dropbox, and Square (though it is not clear whether those references are to the commercial product).
