Fleet operates a marketplace that lets businesses compare freight forwarders, manage shipments and leave reviews, and the platform now hosts more than 500 freight forwarders. The company says its service can help businesses that make roughly five to 100 shipments per year save up to $30,000 and 800 hours annually by speeding quotes, account setup and shipment tracking. Fleet is building Fleet GDS, described as an industry-first global distribution system to link rates, automate bookings and documentation across airlines, ocean carriers, warehouses, trucks and customs brokers. The company also plans to launch an air freight platform next month with Lufthansa Cargo as a partner and service provider. Fleet began as Shipstr, launched at Disrupt San Francisco in 2014, and introduced its marketplace in July 2015. The product roadmap focuses on fixing fragmented industry communications between proprietary systems and EDI to increase efficiency, trust and transparency in the logistics supply chain. It pivoted from connecting small companies without freight brokers to international cargo service providers to a marketplace product launched last July. About 150 freight forwarders currently use Fleet’s quoting platform, and the company says users who compare quotes typically save 20% on shipping costs. Service providers on the platform can get better leads, reach more small businesses, and manage transactions in one place. Fleet says it will continue to focus on the needs of SMBs and to collect data to differentiate its marketplace as cross-border e-commerce grows.
