Floored

159 West 25th Street, 9th Floor, New York, 10001, United States

Overview

Floored scans office spaces, apartments and houses using 3D camera technology and proprietary software to create customizable 3D models. The company switched from Kinect-like sensors to higher-range laser scanners to capture interiors in a matter of hours, then cleans the data in-house and renders results in real time for the web and its iPad app over a couple of days. Its web viewer uses WebGL and supports embedding on real-estate sites with features like full-screen view and maps. Existing customers include Hines, Taconic Investment Partners, Related Companies, CBRE and Cushman Wakefield. Floored plans to grow its engineering team and increase the number of 3D scans it can produce. The startup is New York-based and was a Disrupt NY 2013 finalist. It has raised prior seed funding and is using technology and market lock to drive growth. Floored scans offices, apartments and houses with Kinect-like 3D cameras and a proprietary software layer to produce customizable, real-time 3D models for web and iPad. The company partnered with Matterport and customized its device while developing its own data-cleanup and rendering stack; the full process currently takes about 48–96 hours. Floored renders scenes in real time, lets users add furniture with a simple 3D editor, and will add lighting-condition controls in an upcoming update. The team charges roughly $0.25 per square foot to scan and $0.25–$0.30 per square foot to clean up scans. The New York–based startup has a team of ten, has raised $1 million to date, and plans to reach profitability this year. While focused on real estate today, the company says it intends to expand its 3D applications into other areas and may build a database of scanned spaces over time.
