Flow Medical

322 E 18th St, Chicago, IL, 60616, US

Overview

Flow Medical is creating a multi-function catheter intended to help diagnose and treat venous thromboembolic disease. The company was founded by University of Chicago researchers Jonathan Paul (associate professor of medicine) and Osmanuddin Ahmed (associate professor of radiology). Kathleen McGing, the chief business officer, joined via the Polsky Compass deep tech accelerator and leads commercialization efforts. Initial prototyping was supported by an SBIR Phase I grant, and in July 2022 the company received a $200,000 co-investment from the George Shultz Innovation Fund. Flow Medical recently raised $1 million from a medical device manufacturer to fund device development and testing. Management says they will finalize device design and manufacturing partners in the coming months and focus on testing and small-scale production. The company aims to submit for FDA 510(k) approval in the first quarter of 2025.
