Overview
Flutter provides gesture detection and recognition using standard webcams, with a first Mac app that controls playback in media apps such as iTunes, Spotify and QuickTime via hand waves. The product has seen strong early traction, with downloads in more than 90 countries and top-five placement in the free entertainment app category in over 30 countries; it reached #2 in the U.S. for a period, was #1 free entertainment app in 14 countries, and became the top free app overall in Sweden, Korea, Taiwan and Italy. The company launched this past spring out of Y Combinator’s Winter 2012 class and currently employs seven full-time staff. Flutter is developing a Windows version that is in private alpha and plans to add more gesture recognition and support for additional media apps on Mac. The longer-term vision is to enable gesture control across a wide range of electronic devices. The startup closed $1.4 million in seed funding and will use the capital to scale its team and technology.
