FlyCoin builds a crypto frequent-flier program centered on FLY, a token minted on Ethereum that travelers will earn by flying. At launch the only way to earn FLY is by booking flights on Ravn, the Anchorage-based regional carrier whose resurrection helped prompt FlyCoin's creation. The company plans to make FLY available on crypto wallets and exchanges later this year so holders can trade it for other cryptocurrencies or cash. FlyCoin aims to expand the token reward system to other airlines, hotels and hospitality businesses to grow utility. The company is led by CEO Lenny Moon and is backed by investors including Josh Jones. FlyCoin closed a $33 million seed round to fund its launch and declined to publicly disclose a valuation. Its ties to Ravn and the planned Northern Pacific Airways provide initial distribution channels for the token.
