Flymachine is a San Francisco-based startup building a livestream platform for virtual concerts that aims to capture the social dynamics of live shows. Its product lets groups attend shows in private rooms with video chat bubbles and adjustable friend and music volume, aiming to blur the line between a night in and a night out. The company launched its platform earlier this year and is focused on partnerships with name-brand U.S. venues, including Bowery Ballroom, Bimbo’s 365 Club, The Crocodile, Marathon Music Works and Teragram Ballroom. Flymachine targets fans who would otherwise skip shows — those too far from a venue, without childcare, or averse to mosh pits — rather than trying to convert existing in-person attendees. The founding team includes CEO Andrew Dreskin, who founded Ticketfly, and co-founder Rick Farman, co-founder of Superfly. Financially, Flymachine has raised $21 million in investor funding led by Greycroft and SignalFire, with participation from Primary Venture Partners, Contour Venture Partners, Red Sea Ventures and Silicon Valley Bank to bankroll its plans.
