Overview
Foldax is developing the Tria biopolymer heart valve, which combines a proprietary LifePolymer material with an innovative design intended to eliminate calcification and avoid lifelong anticoagulants. Tria is described in the article as the first and only heart valve to be robotically manufactured, a process the company says reduces variability and improves precision, repeatability, quality and manufacturing economics. The company is developing both surgical aortic and mitral valves and a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) device. Foldax plans to add patients to its recently completed EFS clinical trial for the surgical aortic Tria valve, initiate and enroll patients in the surgical mitral valve trial, and advance the TAVR device toward a first-in-man clinical study. Foldax is developing the Tria technology in partnership with Caltech and CSIRO and is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
