Fondu is a mobile iPhone app that lets users write short, bite-sized reviews and rate places with a one-to-four petal swipe. The app surfaces a feed of friends' mini-reviews, lets you search for places nearby, and can pull in your recent Foursquare check-ins. Users can see popular reviews on a map and the community can give “cheers” to surface notable posts. The product was built as a pivot from SpotOn, which the founders launched at TechCrunch Disrupt NYC. Fondu is positioned as an antidote to Yelp by showing reviews from friends and community-cheered posts rather than a large public directory.
