Forcefield Therapeutics
Victoria House, Bloomsbury Square, London, WC1B 4DA, United Kingdom
Overview
Forcefield Therapeutics is a newly launched biotechnology company focused on developing therapeutics that protect cardiomyocytes and retain heart function following acute myocardial infarction (MI). The company is founded on discoveries by Professor Mauro Giacca and his team, who identified three naturally occurring cardioprotective proteins originally discovered at ICGEB in Trieste and developed at King’s College London. These proteins form the basis of Forcefield’s discovery pipeline and are intended to be developed as an acutely administered formulation for rapid treatment soon after MI, with potential wider applications. Forcefield uses the FunSel platform, an agnostic target‑identification approach based on organ physiology rather than single‑target bias. The company launched in London on 25 April 2022 and is led by an experienced team from discovery to commercialisation. Financially, Forcefield has launched following a £5.5 million commitment from Syncona, which is backing the company.
