Overview
Forta is a security service aimed at detecting threats to smart contracts across layer-one, layer-two and sidechains through a community-driven network. Its core product is a network of "agents"—developer-written code that hunts threats across four buckets (cybersecurity, financial, operational, governance)—and nodes that run those agents. The project emphasizes reusability of agent code so detectors can be adapted and deployed across multiple chains. Forta launched publicly with a $23 million investment announced by OpenZeppelin in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz, which OpenZeppelin described as three-times oversubscribed. Investors in the round included Coinbase Ventures, True Ventures, Blockchain Capital and others, and OpenZeppelin will retain a stake in Forta. The team plans to grow its developer community (opening to more agent writers beyond private beta) before selecting a business model, and said the project could eventually transition to a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
