Fortem

511 Place D'armes Ste 303, Montreal, Quebec, H2Y 2W7, Canada

Overview

Fortem builds the TrueView AI-powered 360-degree radar system — a compact sensor weighing about 1.5 pounds and roughly the size of a pencil case. TrueView can be mounted on drones or ground platforms to detect and help avoid objects smaller than a can of soda, with the company positioning the tech to ease line-of-sight restrictions. Fortem has also demoed DroneHunter, a counter-drone system that uses nets to disable problem drones. The company purchased radar technology from IMSAR in May 2016 and followed with a $5.5M seed round about a year later to develop its compact detection system. Fortem is Utah-based and currently employs just under 100 people. The firm says the recent financing will support scaling the business, marketing, adapting the technology to a wider variety of aircraft, and hiring additional staff.
