Overview

ForthStar is a mobile free-to-play game studio founded by Paul Gouge and Alex Rigby, the creators of Playdemic's Golf Clash. Based in Manchester, the studio is assembling veterans from Playdemic and other industry talent to build new mobile games focused on creativity, innovation, and strong gameplay. The company's first game will not be revealed for more than a year; in the meantime ForthStar is actively recruiting creative and technical staff and focusing on studio culture. The studio has secured $10 million from Griffin Gaming Partners to fund development and hiring, giving leadership sufficient runway to build the team and product. Founders cite a track record that includes Golf Clash (more than 150 million installs) and the sale of Playdemic to Electronic Arts for $1.4 billion, alongside earlier exits with BattleMail and Rockpool Games. ForthStar emphasizes a people-first approach — trialing a four-day week, hybrid working, and an anti-crunch ethos focused on output rather than input.
