Overview

Found (formerly called Indie) was formed after founders Lauren Myrick and Connor Dunn—both ex-Square executives—interviewed self-employed people in 2019 to identify their biggest pain points. Myrick, who led Square’s payroll business unit and has an accounting background, and Dunn, who ran engineering for Square Payroll, built Found to serve as a ledger for self-employed businesses. The platform lets users deposit business income, obtain a debit card for purchases, calculate taxes, set aside money and facilitate quarterly tax payments, and view real-time business and tax reports with expenses reflected instantly. The team launched the product in response to growing self-employment trends accelerated by COVID and the fragmented set of tools freelancers typically use. Financial metrics (revenue/users) are not disclosed in the article, but the company has secured external funding to scale.
