Foundation is developing humanoid robots that combine AI foundation models with custom hardware to perform complex tasks in real-world settings. Co-founded by Synapse founder Sankaet Pathak and Tribe Capital co-founder Arjun Sethi, the company aims to “automate GDP through AI and robotics,” freeing humans from manual labor. Pathak says Foundation’s perception model already handles scene depth, object detection, semantic segmentation, and unseen object pose estimation at a level he claims surpasses current autonomous-vehicle stacks. The firm believes the winner in humanoid robotics will be the one that deploys the largest fleet, so it plans aggressive scaling once prototypes are ready. Its near-term milestone is to demonstrate a walking humanoid robot by year-end. To fund these efforts, Foundation has secured $11 million in pre-seed capital from Tribe Capital and angel backers, providing its initial financial runway.
