Overview
Fountain builds an applicant tracking system focused on hourly and on-demand hiring, using automation to streamline recruiting and onboarding workflows. The platform leverages robotic process automation to handle repetitive tasks, supports posting to job boards like Indeed, two-way texting and video, automated document e-signing, Instant Hire and Instant Interview, and offers Fountain Source sourcing services with a direct Indeed integration. Customers include Just Eat, Instacart, Chipotle, Sweetgreen, Stitch Fix and Gopuff. Founded in 2014 by Jeremy Cai and Keith Ryu, the company is led by CEO Sean Behr, who was appointed in 2020. Fountain declined to disclose revenue figures but says its customer base has grown from dozens to hundreds of brands and it has raised $225 million to date. With the new capital the company plans international expansion into Europe and Asia, to widen analytics and platform capabilities, and to grow headcount from 230 to 325 by year-end. Fountain provides an applicant tracking system focused on the 82 million hourly workers in the U.S., targeting high-volume hiring needs (e.g., filling 1,000+ positions). The platform reduces median days-to-hire to 8.70 versus an industry average of 36 days and processed more than 16 million applicants in the past 12 months. Fountain has worked with over 250 customers, including Chipotle and Liveops, and helped customers hire more than 2 million people in 2021. The company is remote-first and reported 220% year-over-year revenue growth in 2021. Fountain plans to use new funds to expand its global footprint (already operating in 77 countries) with a push into Asia, Europe and the U.K., and to grow its sales, engineering, and marketing teams. Fountain builds a platform to find, screen, communicate with, and onboard gig and hourly field workers, integrating sourcing channels, interview scheduling, paperwork, and third-party background checks. The company processes more than 1 million inbound candidate applications each month and fills about 150,000 jobs in the process. Customers include gig-economy firms such as Uber Eats, Caviar, and Cabify, large fast-food franchises including Taco Bell, Burger King, and KFC, and other customers using Fountain’s white-label APIs. Founded in 2015 and formerly called OnboardIQ, Fountain was incubated in Y Combinator. The startup says it will use the new funding to expand its platform, the services it provides to customers, and its geographic footprint, while shifting effort toward traditional hourly-employer markets as demand priorities change. To date Fountain has raised $34 million in total capital. OnboardIQ provides a cloud-based hiring automation platform that uses machine learning and automation to help HR and operations teams manage high-volume hourly hiring. The platform addresses challenges like siloed on-premise HCM data, screening large applicant pools with lean HR teams, and delivering a branded candidate experience. Led by co-founders Keith Ryu (CEO) and Jeremy Cai (COO), the company processes over 300,000 applications each month across more than 700 cities in 46 countries. OnboardIQ’s solution is used to analyze applicant data and automate hiring workflows for distributed workforces. The company plans to use the new funding to expand operations and drive broader adoption of its platform. OnboardIQ automates steps of the high-volume hiring process, from sending open interview slots to applicants to pushing applicant data through background-check services and notifying HR of results. The company says it has automated 100,000 such hiring steps for customers since January, a metric it uses to illustrate time savings. Dozens of on-demand startups use the service, including Shyp, Munchery, Aliada, and Eaze, and a San Francisco drone startup has used it to hire pilots. As it grows, OnboardIQ expects to attract more traditional employers competing for the same labor pool. To support product development and sales, the company is recruiting front-end and Ruby-on-Rails engineers and hiring its first dedicated salesperson. It raised seed funding to accelerate those efforts and expand its dashboard functionality.
