Fragment is a New York–based startup founded in 2021 that provides a ledger API to make real-time, double-entry accounting accessible to engineers. Its platform lets developers design fund flows, implement them in a database (compared to Postgres) and operate them via a dashboard. Fragment aims to keep in-product balances in lockstep with bank statements so customers can close their books faster and avoid reconciliation disputes. Early customers include TruckSmarter, Nala and Pleo, with Pleo using Fragment to store and track historical balances for its 30,000 customers. The company publicly launched this product and positions itself as a competitor to Modern Treasury. Fragment plans to use its recent funding to grow the engineering team and invest in go-to-market resources; to date it has raised $10.8 million since June 2021, including a newly announced $9 million seed and a pre-seed from Gradient Ventures.
