Friendshippr is an iOS app that connects users with their existing Facebook friends to find people who can transport items for them. The company positions itself as a peer-to-peer 'crowd-shipping' service that leverages smartphones to connect people who are already acquainted rather than anonymous travelers. The app is slated to launch in December and aims to connect users with more people, faster, expanding available shipping destinations. Friendshippr will include features to let users reward friends for helping with shipments, while stressing that rewards do not necessarily mean monetary payment. Chief executive Remi Assaf said the team has made major adjustments they believe will be a game changer in the space. The company is based in the U.S. but operates out of Dubai and received $670,000 from angel investors in Dubai.
