Frond

576 Shotwell Street, Suite 2, San Francisco, CA, 94110, US

Overview

Frond is a tool for building online communities that uses individual channels for topics while relying on Facebook-group-style posts and threaded comments rather than chat. Posts can include photos, videos, links or long-form writing, and members reply within threads to keep discussions organized. The founders position Frond between chaotic chat platforms like Discord and stagnant Facebook groups, targeting a range of communities from DAOs and fandoms to remote teams. The product integrates with Slack and offers moderator features such as recurring prompts to encourage posting; at launch it supports QR-based photo sharing from phones. Frond is currently web-only, with a mobile app described as "very high on our priority list," and the team plans to add more robust content-moderation and admin tools for larger communities. The company is led by Matt Blackshaw and Jan Senderek; both founders previously sold startups (Sold and Loom) to Dropbox. Frond launched publicly alongside a $3.3 million pre-seed raise.
