Functionland builds BAS (Blockchain-Attached Storage) and the Box, a turnkey plug-and-play hardware device that runs applications and enables secure, decentralized storage for photos, files and other personal data. Box also provides incentives to app developers and to Box owners for sharing storage and compute resources with other owners. The company raised more than USD 1.1M in an oversubscribed early funding round and is preparing a Kickstarter launch offering a 50% off promotion on launch day. CEO Keyvan M. Sadeghi and CTO Ehsan Shariati emphasize privacy, encrypted backups, and cost savings compared with monthly cloud fees.
