Funzio develops social games for Facebook and a variety of mobile platforms and launched Crime City in September 2010, which quickly became a top-five Facebook game. Crime City reports more than 750,000 daily active users and over 7.5 million monthly players, has garnered over 200,000 reviews, and carries a 4.9/5 rating. The company has raised $20 million in its first round of institutional funding. The Series A was led by IDG Ventures and China-focused IDG Capital Partners. Rick Thompson participated in the round and serves as Funzio’s chairman, and Phil Sanderson of IDG Ventures will join the company’s board. Funzio plans to use the proceeds to triple its team, scale the business, launch new games faster and develop multiple titles in parallel; Crime City is slated for iOS and Android later this year.
