Fuse
Tollbugata 17, Oslo, 0152, Norway
Overview
Fuse offers a tool suite that makes native app development easier, more efficient, and more collaborative by letting teams deploy to iOS and Android from the same codebase and see changes in real time. Its standout feature is a real-time development workflow where changes to code, UI, content and data are instantly reflected in native apps on iOS and Android side-by-side. The platform is designed to cut development time in half, improve collaboration between designers and developers, accelerate prototyping, and improve overall app user experience; it also opens the door to streamlined development for mixed reality. Fuse’s early beta attracted a worldwide developer community and has large enterprise customers piloting the platform in the U.S. and abroad. The company announced a $12 million Series A, bringing total funding to $19 million, and said the proceeds will help build out its product roadmap and solidify its market position. Fuse has offices in Oslo, Norway and Palo Alto, California. Fuse offers an iOS and Android app development platform that combines a WYSIWYG visual editor, an XML markup option and a dialect of C# to produce production-ready UI and motion. The platform can export native code for iOS and Android and can also export to JavaScript and render via WebGL. Fuse’s goal is to let designers take a larger role in building real app interfaces (not just prototypes) to speed cross-platform development. The product has been in private alpha testing for over a year with a handful of pilot developers and was preparing to launch into beta in Q1. Pricing will be on a freemium basis, though specifics were still to be determined. Financially, Fuse announced $2.8M in new funding and has raised $7M to date; the company is expanding its U.S. presence with a Palo Alto office. Outracks Technologies is a provider of cross-platform content creation tools and an integrated development environment used by programmers and designers to create multi-platform apps and visual experiences. Its tooling is based on Uno, a hybrid CPU–GPU programming language. The solution exports applications to all major mobile and desktop operating systems, as well as WebGL and HTML5 for browsers. The platform was in closed beta at the time of the report. The company intends to use the funds to continue developing its platform. Outracks is led by CEO Anders Lassen and is based in Oslo, Norway. Outracks Technologies, based in Oslo, Norway, is developing Uno, a hybrid graphics engine and compiler that makes GPU-accelerated technology reusable, customizable and accessible to developers, artists and content authors. The company’s technology targets use cases from traditional games and apps to next-generation web content, advertisements, interactive designs and academic and industrial visualization. Outracks raised additional funding from Trond Arne Aas; the amount of that deal was not disclosed, and Aas joined the company’s board. Aas is the former CEO of Funcom and a serial entrepreneur. Prior to this round, Outracks had raised NOK3m in seed funding from Springfondet in November 2012. The company planned to release a beta version of its first commercial product in 2013.
