Gaize builds a patent-pending, self-contained and portable impairment detection device that uses automated tests and machine learning to evaluate how cannabis impacts normal bodily processes and the brain. The company’s core product provides real-time measurements of experienced impairment and produces video evidence from automatically performed tests for law enforcement. Gaize targets law enforcement agencies as primary customers and also positions the device for businesses with safety- or security-critical employees. The startup plans to finalize its real-time cannabis impairment detection device and begin marketing it to law enforcement following the seed round. Gaize closed a $1.2M seed funding round to support those development and go-to-market efforts. The company was started in 2021 by Ken Fichtler, formerly the Director of Economic Development for the State of Montana.
