Overview
Gamestry operates a video platform akin to YouTube but focused on videogames and gaming communities. The company has shown strong early traction, particularly in Spain and Latin America. In April 2022 it added €3M to an ongoing financing, bringing the capital increase to €7M. Gamestry plans to scale across Spanish-speaking markets and aims to reach ten million active users by the end of 2022. The company also intends to grow its Barcelona team from 25 to 40 employees during the year. The new funds are intended to improve product features and support audience and geographic expansion. Gamestry launched in 2018 and repositioned last year from a learning-focused curator to a broader entertainment-focused gaming video platform. The product centers on non-live, on-demand videos organized around individual game titles to improve discovery compared with general UGC platforms. The company highlights a “fair ads revenue share model,” pledges full transparency on monetization, and says it will add more revenue streams for creators soon. Gamestry reports 4 million monthly active users and 2,000 active creators across Spain and Latin America, and claims a 175x growth rate over the past 12 months. The team is targeting 20 million MAUs by the end of the year. Typical users skew male aged 18–24, and the platform’s most trending games include Minecraft, Free Fire and Fortnite. Gamestry is an online platform that offers instructional content and coaching from top professional esports players. Founded in October 2018 and based in Barcelona, the startup prioritizes signing the best players in each category to deliver high-quality tutorials. The company positions its product as an alternative to broader, lower-quality content by featuring elite players with different approaches to the game. Gamestry says this approach responds to growing demand for educational esports content, citing Newzoo data showing more than 2.4 billion hours watched on Twitch and YouTube in Q1 2018. The startup is being accelerated in San Francisco by Boost VC. Financially, Gamestry closed its first external funding round of €300,000 from business angels.
