Garbaliser

Baalbek, Beqaa, Lebanon

Overview

Garbaliser converts organic waste into a patented liquid fertilizer that can be added directly to irrigation systems. The product has been shown to produce cleaner, more productive produce than chemical fertilizers, and the company regularly sells it to over 400 clients in Baalbek, where it was founded. Garbaliser was created in 2020 by sisters Hanan and Zeinab Ismail during Lebanon’s COVID-19 lockdown and economic crisis; the founders pivoted from an initial garbage-separator concept to focus on fertilizer production. Customers use Garbaliser’s "al-Hadum" (The Digestor) system to separate organic and non-organic waste; Garbaliser collects the organic waste, converts it into liquid fertilizer, and offers customers a discount on the product. The company partners with Zero Waste to recycle non-organic materials and with Dekkanet El-Nes, an organic grocery that rewards customers for buying non-packaged food. After securing funding from Shark Tank Dubai and a UAE partnership, Garbaliser plans to enter the UAE market in 2024 and expand into Jordan and the wider GCC.
