Overview
Gekko Technology develops white and colour-tunable LED-based luminaires for film, television and photographic lighting, emphasizing intelligent design and high-quality components to ensure accurate, consistent and precisely-controllable colour temperature. Its fixtures have been used by broadcasters and outlets including the BBC, ITN, Sky Television, Channel 4, Channel 5, Associated Press and NBC, and on films such as Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Mamma Mia, Golden Compass and Star Trek. Led by managing director David Amphlett, who established the business in 2004, the company currently employs 12 staff. Gekko received a £510k investment from Midven’s Exceed – Midlands Advantage Fund. The company intends to use the funds to continue to build the business, increase sales and undertake further research and development. The financing is aimed at supporting growth and product development in the international film and television markets.
