Overview
GelSight develops industrial 3D imaging solutions centered on its GelSight Mobile handheld instrument, which visualizes and measures the 3D topography of any surface in seconds to reveal microscopic structures. Its proprietary elastomeric sensor conforms to surface topography of metals, composites, and glass to reveal features regardless of ambient lighting or material reflectivity. The GelSight Mobile system provides instant visual feedback plus position, depth, and other surface measurements with high spatial resolution down to the micron level. The company raised $10M in a Series B financing and intends to use the funds to accelerate growth. In connection with the financing GelSight added aviation executive David Hurley, US Navy Vice Admiral David Buss (Ret.), and US Air Force Lieutenant General Judith Fedder (Ret.) to its board; advisor Pierre Villeneuve, PhD, also joined the board. Kimo Johnson is listed as GelSight's CEO. GelSight develops a tactile imaging system that captures 3D information to reveal details invisible to the human eye and provides accurate dimensional measurements to single-digit microns. Its core product captures micro-level surface topology and can be applied to industrial inspection, forensic visualization, micro-level data capture, and science education. Customers include Fortune 100 companies as well as universities and government research centers across the US, Europe and Asia. Founded in July 2011 and led by CEO Bill Yost, the company is based in Cambridge, MA. GelSight closed a Series A financing in which the amount was not disclosed; the round was led by Ping Fu with participation from funds managed by Omega Funds. The company intends to use the funds to facilitate production capacity and accelerate market penetration.
