Overview
Gem, founded in 2017 by Steve Bartel and Nick Bushak, provides a recruiting platform that links talent sources and HR systems to enable proactive hiring. The product powers outbound recruiting—sending targeted emails, hosting events, running branded campaigns and ad spend—while delivering analytics that track the end-to-end hiring process and diversity metrics. Gem says it helps customers hire up to five times faster and can identify bias or drop-off during the interview funnel. The company serves more than 800 customers, including over 100 unicorns, and has tripled revenue and doubled its customer base in the last year. It doubled headcount in the first half of 2021 and plans to use new capital for continued product investment, sales and marketing expansion and international growth in Western Europe and parts of Asia Pacific. The Series C values the company at $1.2 billion and brings total funding to $148 million. Gem provides a recruiting CRM and sourcing platform that integrates with LinkedIn, email, and customers’ applicant tracking systems, plus a Chrome extension for sourcing, messaging personalization, and automated follow-ups. The product includes Outreach Stats for messaging insights, a CRM for talent-acquisition performance data, and Pipeline Analytics to measure time-to-hire and funnel requirements. Gem says customers source 5x faster, double response rates, and double conversions to initial phone screens. More than 300 companies use Gem, including Slack, DoorDash, Coinbase, Peloton, and Pure Storage, and the company reports a net revenue retention rate of 120%. Gem has seen strong commercial traction, with 4x revenue growth in 2019 and its best quarter yet in 2020. The company is launching Diversity Analytics to track gender, race, and ethnicity through interview stages to help teams identify and address potential bias, and it plans to double down on product innovation with the new funding. Gem, formerly ZenSourcer, provides a recruiting platform built around Gem CRM to help teams collaborate on candidates, discover best practices, and avoid duplicate outreach. Launched 18 months prior by CEO Steve Bartel and CTO Nick Bushak, the product enables companies to build talent relationships at scale through hosted events and personalized content sent at optimal intervals. Each touchpoint is automatically tracked to give visibility into the recruiting pipeline from reach-out to offer. Gem Sourcing lets users build lists, find email addresses, and automate follow-ups, and the solution integrates with LinkedIn, Gmail, Outlook, and every ATS. The company reports over 100 paying customers, including Dropbox, Pinterest, and Slack. Gem raised $9M in a Series A round led by Accel.
