Overview
Gen9 is a privately held company developing next-generation gene synthesis technologies that enable high-throughput, automated production of DNA constructs with lower cost and higher accuracy. Its BioFab® platform can synthesize tens of thousands of gene fragments in just a few square feet of laboratory space. Gen9 manufactures and ships double-stranded GeneBits™ DNA constructs ranging from 500 to 1,024 base pairs. The company plans to use a recent $21 million strategic investment to further product development and expand its commercial infrastructure. Gen9 is developing processes to directly and continuously print communication, computation, and displays onto arbitrary substrates, aiming to reinvent microelectronics. The company is led by CEO Joseph Jacobson, head of the Media Lab's Molecular Machines research group. Its core product work focuses on end-to-end printing of electronic and display functions onto arbitrary materials. Gen9 is operating in stealth and has been raising venture financing to advance development. According to SEC filings, the company has taken in funding as part of a Series B round. The filings indicate $1.5 million has been raised toward a planned $9.6 million raise from multiple investors.
