Overview
Genometry commercializes an L1000 gene-expression profiling platform developed by a multidisciplinary team of genome scientists. The founders discovered the L1000 approach while working at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, measuring ~1,000 landmark genes and using a computational model trained on over 100,000 microarray experiments to infer the activity of the remaining ~19,000 genes. The method produces close approximations of full 20,000-transcript profiles from crude cell lysates in 384-well plate format. L1000 profiling runs at a rate of thousands of samples per day and at a fraction of the cost of conventional microarray methods. This throughput and cost structure enable expression profiling at a scale not previously possible and targets next-generation pharmaceutical discovery applications. The company says it is a platform-technology company focused on commercialization of this approach.
