Genos
455 Market Street Suite 1100, San Francisco, California, 94105, United States
Overview
Genos uses next-generation sequencing to profile users' exomes, providing richer genetic detail than SNP-based tests. The company plans to sequence whole genomes in the near future but is starting with exome sequencing to focus on protein-coding variants important to rare-disease discovery. Genos aims to create a crowdsourced genetic map by incentivizing individuals—paying for their information each time it is used rather than relying on blanket consent. The startup is gearing up for an official launch in a few months and says it will disclose participant payment amounts closer to that date. Genos recently closed a $6 million strategic investment from cancer discovery platform NantOmics. Its advisory board includes genomics leader George Church, Nobel laureate economist Alvin E. Roth, and former Uber exec Mina Radhakrishnan.
