Geodelic Systems
3384 Robertson Pl Ste 100, Los Angeles, CA, 90034, United States
Overview
Geodelic offers a free mobile app for iPhone and Android that automatically surfaces nearby points of interest with a swipe-based, "search-less search" interface. The app learns user preferences and personalizes results, and integrates with reservation and review services such as OpenTable. Geodelic also provides content-specific mobile guides (example: Hollywood Walk of Fame) that will soon be creatable by any user. Its location technology is licensed to carriers like Korea Telecom to enable enterprise mobile guides. The company monetizes via partnerships with brands and marketers through an authoring system that publishes location-triggered "Experiences" and supplies real-time statistics and a relevance engine for targeted marketing. The Android app has been downloaded over half a million times; the iPhone app is available and a BlackBerry version is in development. Geodelic Systems creates a location-aware search engine that recommends restaurants, movies, stores, flights, hotels and local attractions based on distance and user behavior. Its interface includes a "location carousel" that brings up nearby results on a map by category and it learns which places, stores, and brands a user prefers. The app is designed to be as passive as possible, minimizing typing, though it does not add an augmented-reality data layer like Layar or Sekai Camera. Geodelic’s Sherpa app will be featured on T-Mobile’s myTouch 3G, and an iPhone app was reported to be in development. The company was incubated at Clearstone Ventures and was founded by Rahul Sonnad, who previously sold thePlatform to Comcast in 2006. Financially, the company disclosed raising $3.5 million in an earlier round.
