GeoQuant applies machine learning to global risk analysis, feeding roughly 250 risk variables into software that outputs a real-time political risk score for countries. Its data sources include traditional structured country data from banks and NGOs, social-network signals, and high-frequency opinion polls. The company has commercial relationships with large institutional customers and sells data and analysis tools to Bloomberg, going live on Bloomberg terminals in June. CEO Mark Rosenberg, formerly head of product development at Eurasia Group, says GeoQuant has accurately predicted political stability shifts in markets such as Italy, Mexico, and Brazil. GeoQuant plans to build a SaaS platform that delivers political and country risk assessments in real time through a customizable dashboard. Financially, the company is backed by a $4 million seed investment from Aleph VC and XL Innovate, and Rosenberg frames the opportunity against an ~$8 billion current risk-analysis market and roughly $2 trillion in annual global foreign direct investment.
