GetEquity

6 Okah Avaeh Close, Chemist, Akoka, Lagos, Nigeria

Overview

GetEquity launched in 2021 and has built a platform that connects retail investors to private-market opportunities by pooling funds to meet minimum investment thresholds rather than managing funds directly. The company has 14,000 registered users, of whom about 12% actively invested in equity deals. GetEquity says it generated $320,000 in revenue in 2022, planned to reach profitability in 2023, but did not hit that target despite facilitating 31 funding rounds and three exits. Facing a pullback in venture funding and changing customer risk preferences, the startup is repositioning to offer relatively lower-risk vehicles such as bonds and commodities. It currently lists offerings through Regulation S with the U.S. SEC and says it will work closely with regulators as it expands. The company is TechStars-backed and has encountered regulatory questions in its home market of Nigeria about its fund-aggregation approach. GetEquity operates a tokenisation-based platform that enables startups to raise capital from retail investors, communities, syndicates and institutions by selling tokens that represent equity. The product includes a wallet, token secondary market, and a private "Dealroom" feature for faster syndicate-style raises. The company enforces a fast due-diligence process led by a multidisciplinary team (law, marketing, investment, business development) before listing startups. It accepts investments as small as $10 and supports crypto funding via a partnership with Fluidcoin. GetEquity charges 0.5–5% on transactions depending on payment method and takes a 4% commission from startups. The platform reports over 4,000 users, about 20 startups listed, and over $400,000 invested, and says it has seen 100% growth across all metrics since its investment.
