GetGlue, launched in 2008, is a social entertainment network that enables users to check in to and share activities such as TV shows, movies, books and sports across desktop and mobile. The service offers native iOS and Android apps and an API used by over 30 major media companies including Fox, NBC, Showtime, HBO and DirecTV. More than 75 television networks use GetGlue to reward fans of 680 popular shows with stickers and discounts and to access its backend monitoring and analytics. The network grew from 750,000 users to 2 million in the past year; check-ins rose 1,000% and surpassed 100 million, and the company’s database contains over 350 million check-ins, ratings and comments. GetGlue implemented an NLP-based curation feature to filter comments, which increased engagement by 50%. The company plans product development including updated iPad and Android tablet apps and possible Kindle Fire support, and operates a roughly 40-person team.
