Geyser Batteries

Maria 01 16, Lapinlahdenkatu 16, Helsinki, Uusimaa, 00180, Finland

Overview

Geyser Batteries develops and manufactures a class of high‑power, water‑based, non‑lithium batteries using aqueous electrolytes and novel electrochemistry. Its products are capable of over one million fast‑charging cycles, operate at ultra‑low ambient temperatures, are fully fire‑safe, and claim a low carbon footprint and competitive pricing. The company was incorporated in 2018 and employs a diverse team with more than 25 years of experience in research, development, and manufacturing of specialty aqueous energy storage solutions. Geyser plans to strengthen product development and manufacturing capabilities and to establish pilot production and R&D facilities in Mikkeli, Finland. Financially, it completed a €1.1M bridge financing round in June 2021 with pro‑rata participation from existing investors and new participation by Tesi. The funding is intended to support the pilot facilities and further development toward a leading position in the global energy storage market in line with EU Battery Regulation and Finland’s National Battery Strategy. Geyser Batteries develops water-based, high-performance batteries using an electrochemical technology that contains no elements of Li‑ion technology. Its batteries offer energy density close to high-power Li‑ion batteries while maintaining high-power functioning steady over time and, the company says, can keep working up to 10–100 times longer. The Vaasa-based firm serves B2B customers in transportation, industrial machinery, and power-grid sectors, positioning its products for hybrid powertrains and long-term heavy-duty grid systems. Geyser emphasizes full life-cycle sustainability, claiming ultra-low carbon footprint and safer chemistry compared with Li‑ion. The recent funding will support expansion of the product offering, including development of an automated assembly node as the first step toward mass production of its “plug-and-play” battery modules. Management frames the technology as enabling high-performance, safe, and sustainable electrification solutions across mobility and grid applications.
