Giga Entertainment Media is a media-technology developer whose flagship product, GiganetTV, aggregates live cable channels, VOD libraries, OTT services, social media, email, chat, gaming and e-commerce into a single browser-based interface. The proprietary software supports 30 synchronized real-time HD streams, with movable picture-in-picture windows and built-in communications tools such as Skype and group chat. GEM positions the service as a value-added offering that cable, satellite and telco operators can license to retain subscribers and stem cord-cutting. The company intends to generate revenue primarily from licensing fees to these distributors and from transactional “buy-now” options embedded in the interface. A technical collaboration with Twin Technologies leveraged Adobe Flash architecture to secure, deliver and scale the multi-stream experience. GEM plans a formal commercial launch of GiganetTV at the 2014 NAB Show in Las Vegas and expects industry exposure there to drive licensing deals. To finance this rollout, the company recently secured a $22 million term sheet from BGB Capital Partners, building on what management calls an exceptional year of product and leadership milestones.
