Gixel
Gartenstr. 82-84, Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, 76135, Germany
Overview
Gixel builds a modular, ultra-light optical display architecture designed for AI and AR eyewear, delivering smartphone-level image quality, excellent transparency when off, and low weight and heat. Its technology supports curved lenses, variable focal planes, and scalable fields of view up to full-lens coverage. The design is manufacturable at industrial scale and allows OEMs to customise display placement and field of view. Founded in 2019 by Fraunhofer optics experts Dr.-Ing. Miro Taphanel and Dr.-Ing. Ding Luo with entrepreneur Felix Nienstaedt, the team has about 15 specialists and has worked on AR display development since 2021. The company is building a fully functional prototype and preparing developer kits for pilot partners. Gixel recently raised a €5M seed round and plans a Series A next year to scale manufacturing and meet industry demand.
