Glia
30 West 21st Street, 4th floor, New York, NY, 10010, United States
Overview
Glia is an app that blends Yelp and eHarmony to enable "values-based shopping," matching users to restaurants and shops that align with their political and social preferences. Users fill out a profile of likes and dislikes and an algorithm scores matches between individuals and businesses. The founders—Barry Klein, Chris Rappley, and Tahlia Sutton—have started indexing companies by what they do with their money, what they say, and their corporate social responsibility, beginning with larger retailers and restaurants. The company raised roughly $250,000 in seed funding to build out its first-generation products and launch initial marketing. Glia estimates a potential active user base of 21 million to 31 million people and anticipates strong engagement from a sub-segment of millennials. Facebook’s employee number one, Taner Halicioglu, has joined as an advisor.
