GlobeSherpa develops secure mobile-ticketing software and services that allow riders to pay for transit fares with their smartphones and use the device as proof of payment. The company signed a deal last year with TriMet, Oregon’s largest transit provider, and plans a full rollout of that service this summer. GlobeSherpa says the new capital will help expand its business internationally and drive adoption across other transit systems and mobile-ticketing opportunities. The startup was founded three years ago in Portland (the Rose City) and is a graduate of the Portland Seed Fund. It has a staff of nine and is led by CEO Nat Parker, who emphasized investor confidence in the company’s technology and market position. GlobeSherpa is a Portland, Oregon–based startup that transforms smartphones into payment and redemption devices for transit. Its core product, TransitSherpa, allows commuters to purchase and use transit tickets via their phones. The app provides real-time locations of buses and light rail, includes a trip planner, and sends alerts about service disruptions, transit promotions, and events. TransitSherpa is available for iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry. The company is led by CEO Nat Parker and CTO Michael Gray. Financially, GlobeSherpa was selected to receive a $25,000 investment from Portland Seed Fund.
