Globin Solutions is a biotech startup developing an antidote to treat carbon monoxide poisoning based on an engineered mutant neuroglobin (Ngb H64Q). The company licensed the underlying technology from the University of Pittsburgh and its founders — all faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine — developed the therapeutic. Their lead candidate scavenges carbon monoxide with high affinity; an early assessment showed a CO clearance half-life of about 23 seconds compared with 74 minutes for oxygen therapy.
