Glose is a French startup offering a social reading app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app operates its own bookstore and supports DRM-free e-books, and users can highlight text, write annotations and share them with friends. Features include following booklists, creating private reading groups, tracking friends' progress and gamification elements such as reading streaks. The app has been downloaded 600,000 times. Glose plans to launch Glose Education, a separate service tailored for universities and high schools where teachers can create reading groups, assign homework and add class annotations. The company recently raised a $3.4 million (€3 million) funding round.
