The company began testing with the startup-focused podcast Acquired, which is now bringing in $35,000 in subscription fees through Glow, and has since signed up shows including Techmeme Ride Home, Twenty Thousand Hertz and The Newsworthy. Co-founder and CEO Amira Valliani — who previously worked in the Obama White House and earned an MBA from Wharton — says the product was born from her own difficulty finding a sustainable business model for a local elections podcast. Glow views hosting as largely solved and is initially focused on solving monetization via direct listener relationships, with potential future work on distribution defined as audience growth support rather than a new podcast app. The company plans to use its seed funding to build the product and invest in podcast success, including hiring a dedicated podcast success hire as its first post-round addition.
