Glyscend develops orally delivered polymer compounds that act on targets inside the gastrointestinal tract to treat type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders. Its polymer technology platform originated from Johns Hopkins research showing designed polymers could mimic post-bariatric surgery improvements in glucose and metabolic regulation in animal models. The technology was invented at the Center for Bioengineering Innovation & Design (CBID) at Johns Hopkins and licensed from the university. Glyscend plans to use new financing to advance development of its oral polymer therapy for patients with T2D and other metabolic diseases. The company is headquartered in Baltimore, MD, and conducts materials science R&D at JLABS @ M2D2 in Lowell, MA. Leadership includes Co-Founder, President and CEO Ashish Nimgaonkar, MD, and Co-Founder and CSO Thomas Jozefiak, PhD; the company has received grants and recognition from the Maryland Innovation Initiative, the National Science Foundation, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, and the Janssen QuickFire Challenge.
