Overview
GnuBIO builds a next-generation, fully integrated desktop DNA sequencing platform that compartmentalizes the entire sequencing workflow on a single cartridge and chip. Its emulsion-based microfluidic technology enables scalable interrogation from single genes and gene panels to whole genomes, combining gene capture, PCR, sequencing, and informatics analysis. The compact system operates without peripheral servers and is positioned for use in hospitals, research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, molecular diagnostic developers, and physician offices, with applications in infectious disease, oncology, and cardiovascular disease. GnuBIO shipped an Early Access instrument to the Montreal Heart Institute in 2011 and planned delivery of commercial systems in 2013. The company intends to commercialize the platform, launch its first targeted sequencing product, and expand hires in product development, molecular biology, informatics, software engineering, and sales and marketing. Financially, GnuBIO announced a $10.0M Series B equity financing and recently received $4.5M in government grant funding to support product translation.
