Overview
GPTZero offers an AI-detection platform that identifies whether content was generated by language models, built from an initial web app launched in December 2022 and formally released in January 2023. The product is used by teachers (including a deal with the American Federation of Teachers), government procurement agencies, grant-writing organizations, hiring managers, and AI training-data labelers. The company says it has a “big data advantage,” using millions of human vs. AI examples, proprietary LLM-based models and Penn State benchmarks to improve accuracy. GPTZero grew its user base from about 1 million to 4 million in the past 12 months and reported 500% ARR growth in the last six months. The startup has been profitable for several months and reports having millions in revenue and more cash in the bank than its total prior raises. The team is working on hallucination detection and has released a free AI-text copyright check to help generate training data for that effort.
