Overview
Greensill provides working capital finance and is one of the largest non-bank bond issuers in Europe. In 2019 it facilitated more than $150 billion of financing to over 8 million suppliers and customers across more than 165 countries. Led by founder and CEO Lex Greensill, the company offers supply-chain and receivables financing solutions and is pursuing product development and international expansion. Proceeds from recent fundraising are intended to accelerate global expansion, step up new-product development, and finance strategic acquisitions. Greensill has announced the acquisition of FreeUp, a London-based startup building technology for early payment of earned wages at zero cost to employees, with a pilot to begin immediately and a full launch in the coming months. Over the past 14 months the company has raised more than $1.7 billion from institutional investors. Greensill provides working capital finance facilities that allow businesses to offer suppliers faster payment while preserving their own capital. The company operates globally across Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia and is headquartered in London with offices in multiple major cities. Greensill owns Greensill Bank, founded in Bremen in 1927, and runs proprietary Supply Chain Finance Funds managed by leading fund managers. It works with more than 100 institutional investors and has extended over $60 billion of financing to more than 8 million customers across 60 countries. Led by founder and CEO Lex Greensill, the company plans to use new funding to accelerate technology development, support a broader, more liquid capital market for working capital finance assets, and expand its geographic presence. Greensill is a working‑capital platform that provides businesses an alternative source of funding through supply‑chain finance. Founded in 2011, the firm has facilitated payments to 1.5 million suppliers and provided over $40 billion of financing across 50 countries. The company owns Greensill Bank (founded in Bremen in 1927) and operates four proprietary Supply Chain Finance Funds. Greensill says it has a competitive advantage in the underserved supply‑chain finance market, noting roughly $3.5 trillion in value is locked up at any given moment. With the new investment it plans to expand via corporate partnerships, improve its technology and fintech infrastructure, and recruit and retain staff. The company was valued at $1.64 billion in the reported deal.
