Overview
Grid is a SaaS startup founded in Iceland in late 2018 by Hjalmar Gislason that converts spreadsheets into visual, interactive websites linked directly to underlying workbooks. Its product enables everyday spreadsheet users to create visual and interactive narratives on top of existing spreadsheets and securely share them via the web. The company opened its beta and identified two core use cases during private beta: model presentation (consultants and business analysts communicating spreadsheet models) and regular reporting. Users value the combination of text and data visualization and the fact that Grid documents stay connected to underlying workbooks so changes are reflected immediately. Grid closed a $12M Series A led by New Enterprise Associates, with participation from existing backers BlueYard Capital, Slack Fund, Acequia Capital and other strategic partners. The new funding will be used to bring the product to market and for further product development. GRID builds a platform that translates spreadsheets into interactive web apps, dashboards and reports. The company has launched a private alpha of its product. GRID’s approach is to turn static spreadsheet data into more engaging web reports. The startup plans to hire additional staff and continue product development. Its recent funding is intended to support those plans through 2021. GRID is Reykjavik-based and positions itself to “free the spreadsheet.”
