Overview

Grolltex is a nanotechnology materials, products and equipment company that produces chemical vapor deposition (CVD) mono-layer graphene using patented research and technologies developed at the University of California, San Diego. The company manufactures graphene materials and products as well as related equipment. Its product applications include solar cells, sensors, fuel cells and hyper-thin, flexible displays for wearables, smartphones and other electronics. Grolltex intends to use newly raised funds to improve productivity and for general corporate purposes. The company is led by CEO and co-founder Jeff Draa. In September 2017 Grolltex completed a financing event that informs its current financial position. GrollTex has developed an environmentally benign process to grow single-layer graphene on a copper substrate overlaid with nickel, allowing intact large-area removal. The technology targets mass production of graphene for applications including water desalination membranes and flexible electronics. Founder Aliaksandr (Alex) Zaretski patented the technology through UC San Diego’s Technology Transfer Office and obtained an exclusive license. The company received proof-of-concept funding and mentorship via UC San Diego’s von Liebig Center and the DOE-funded Southern California Clean Energy Technology Acceleration Program, and has won multiple business-plan awards. GrollTex has hired a CEO, Jeff Draa, and is engaging potential partners and lab space as it moves toward commercialization. Seed funding announced from The Triton Fund is being used to accelerate commercialization of the technology.
