GroupTalent operates a curated, software-powered matching engine that pairs vetted engineers, designers and data scientists with contract and full-time projects. The company launched in December 2011 and is a TechStars graduate. Its network grew from fewer than 100 developers in January 2012 to over 4,000 by the end of the year, and employer opportunities increased roughly 80% since July. GroupTalent admits about 20% of applicants to maintain quality and aims to place talent into roles within 48 hours of project submission. Customers include CrowdStrike, Timbuk2 and Midokura. The startup charges a 20% premium on top of developer rates, typically handling projects ranging from $10K to $100K. With new funding, GroupTalent plans to scale the platform, add headcount and accelerate marketplace growth (targeting to double employer opportunities in 2013).
